In a world changed by evolution, not much has survived. Species that changed and adapted to the new world grew strong and spread over the planet. Those that couldn't adapt died out. The humans that forever called themselves Kings of the Planet were one such species that couldn't cope with the change.
The humans were controlling. They took animals from their natural habitat and forced them into captivity. They hunted and ate other animals, never fearing that one day their reign might end. These two-legged creatures destroyed the planet, cutting down forests and creating their own jungles of rock and steel.
The animals they took were forced into cages to perform or work for the 'Masters'. They were forced to breed and produce offspring so the humans would have more toys to play with. Eventually these 'domesticated' species forgot what it was like to be wild. To be free.
Millions of years have passed since that era of this planet's life and much has changed. The humans were the cause of their own demise millenia earlier, leaving the animals that had adapted to the changing world to fend on their own without depending on the weird two-legged to give them rationed food.
Many of these freed animals could not cope. They had depended to much on the meager sustenance the humans gave them.
